Celebrating the Importance of American Made

Following the great success of Manufacturing Day—which celebrated the importance of American Manufacturing—the next important event which we all should celebrate is American Made Matters Day, this November 19th.

Sponsored by American Made Matters®, an organization aimed at getting Americans to see the importance of buying American-made products, the day will be twofold; it will encourage American consumers to buy at least one American-made product, while encouraging them to keep that spirit in mind during the holiday shopping season.

During these times, this mission is as important as ever. The reshoring trend is bringing manufacturing back to our soil significantly, with companies large and small seeing the many benefits of American manufacturing. According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal on a survey on the subject, “38% of U.S.-based manufacturing executives who responded were shifting production to the U.S. or considering that, up from 18% in a similar survey in February 2012.” The same article states that “Scores of companies — including General Electric Co., Whirlpool Corp. and Caterpillar Inc. — have announced such ‘reshoring’ moves in the past couple of years.”

However, this doesn’t mean that we should all let our guard down and assume that there’s no more work to be done. Many manufacturers are still outsourcing their labor, and many American consumers are not fully aware of the importance buying American-made products has on our economy and job market. For every American-made product a consumer purchases, another American’s job could be saved.

With that in mind, we encourage everyone to participate in American Made Matters Day, and to keep the momentum going throughout the year.
