Another piece of great news for us at Astro Machine Works! MANTEC has nominated us for an ImPAct Award, a program implemented by Governor Tom Corbett to celebrate the companies and individuals who are investing in Pennsylvania and creating jobs. We will be among the nominees at a ceremony being held on May 23, 2013, when the winners will be announced.
As we mentioned in our last blog, MANTEC is a government-funded resource whose mission it is to drive strength in manufacturing through continuous innovation and growth. During the economic downturn, taking advantage of the resources MANTEC had to offer, combined with our belief in ourselves and our ability to innovate, has enabled us to thrive during what, for many small businesses, have been tough times. Extending our reach and broadening our customer base has enabled us to create jobs – our manufacturing staff has expanded from 45 employees in 2006 to a current total of 75. To fill some of these positions, as well as support local colleges’ efforts to address the manufacturing skills gap, we have actively recruited members from each year’s graduating class for employment at Astro Machine Works.
At Astro Machine Works, we have always operated confidently and with a clear vision – to deliver high quality custom machinery and precision fabricated parts while building strong partner relationships with our customers. Navigating through rough business conditions was a challenge, and we urge other small business, not just in Pennsylvania, but in states across the country, to actively seek assistance from local organizations affiliated with the Manufacturing Extension Partnership. In a survival-of-the fittest environment, it’s the innovators who will gain traction and grow along with the economy.
We’re proud to be among the nominees in the Small Business category, and congratulate each and every company on the list for their contribution towards growing Pennsylvania’s and America’s manufacturing industry.
